  • ¼ cup Poppy Seeds
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 1¾ cup Sugar
  • 4 Eggs
  • ½ tsp Almond Extract
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2½ cup + 2 T Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • ½ tsp Baking Soda
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • ¼ cup Sugar
  • 2 tsp Cinnamon
  1. Put poppy seeds in buttermilk and let them soak. Cream butter and 1-3/4 cups sugar. Add egg yolks and almond and vanilla. Beat well.
  2. Sift flour, baking powder, soda, and salt together. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk mixture.
  3. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Fold beaten egg whites into batter.
  4. Grease two 9x5 loaf pans. Mix ¼ cup sugar and cinnamon. Pour small amount of batter into pans and sprinkle half the cinnamon sugar over it. Add remaining batter and then remainder of cinnamon sugar.
  5. Bake at 375F for 45 minutes or until tester comes out clean.
