Cream butter with the sugars until light and fluffy.
Beat in the egg and vanilla.
Stir flour with baking soda, salt (and spices); add to creamed mixture, mixing well.
Stir in the oats.
Fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts.
Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 12 minutes.. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheet, then transfer to wire cooling racks. Store in a tightly sealed container. Makes about 6 dozen 2-inch cookies.
